T-shirt review...

OK - I got this adorable Monkey T-Shirt to review: (I hope the picture copies over).  Anyway, Since I was reviewing it, I decided to put it through the rigorous "mommy test", which, I couldn't have picked a better time to do! This t-shirt is comfy...which is a big deal for me! and it's stretchy, which is also a big deal for me. Another big thing is that it didn't stretch too much across the chest, which is a big issue for me since I am rather well-endowed and that's typically a problem. So, when I decided to try it out, my kids were sick...I was a human tissue for a few days. This shirt got snotted on more than I can imagine and it didn't stain and it washed and re-washed several times without shrinking, the picture peeling off or losing it's integrity. I HIGHLY recommend this t-shirt company. If you need ANY special occasion shirts printed, I would say go with this company. The t-shirts stand up to washing, kids pulling and tearing at them, spills, etc.. Think about it for your next family reunion or function! I know I will be recommending them for the fund-raisers that I work on! You can find them at www.tshirtprinting.net

goodbye and a movie

*sigh* - we have had a litter of foster kittens at our house for 7 weeks - to the day. Their mommy was here for a few weeks before that until she had them.  Needless to say, my kids got attached...VERY attached. Today was the day...the big day we took them to the shelter to meet their new owners and go to their new homes. My oldest took it really hard. BUT, I'm proud of him. He did well!  He cried...a LOT. He expressed himself like a 6 year old going on 60. He said, with a maturity beyond his years, that it hurt his heart to say goodbye to them and that he would miss them. He cuddled all of them, and we took pictures with all of them. He prayed that they like their new homes and wished them well....and then broke down into a heart-breaking wail that brought me and several of the other volunteers to tears as well. It was as innocent and heart-felt as I've ever seen...and then we went for chocolate chip pancakes and to see the movie Rio. It helped...A LOT! He has cheered up substantially and there haven't been any further tears since then.  All I can say is that I'm very impressed with him and sad for him that he misses them so much. I'm proud of him and I TOTALLY enjoyed our day together. The movie was actually very funny...have to give it a high recommendation. It even amused the little one who danced a killer samba in the aisles!  I wish I had funnier stories to report today, but, we haven't had much of that. I'm certain that this week will bring more adventures, as my cleaning the house top to bottom project is continuing, as well as the garage project!  I'm on a mission to have a place for everything and everything in it's place!  This ought to be good! LOL

epic fail? Or genius?

So, the birthday cake experiment was a bust...or was it?!?! I'll admit...I'm weary of my almost 3-year old's fantastic tantrums; I also get that he wants to exert his independence....and he is, after all, his mother's son, so I'm sure he has A LOT of that. That being said, he had VERY different ideas than I did in preparing his dad's birthday cake. Namely, he wanted it gone...he didn't want me to make it and was totally upset that it was getting my attention and not him. He was having a day. Not sure whether it was growing, teething or general crankiness, but nothing was easy with him that day. He fought me in the store (yes, he was THAT kid) and then we got home. I VERY stupidly decided to tackle his nap and the cake at the same time. What ended up happening was an un-napped, ornery kiddo and a half-molten gob of ice-cream on top of a chocolate cake base.  Sooo...I tossed it in the freezer to re-solidify, which I figured wouldn't take long. I was wrong.  NOW...here's the potential genius part...my husband was thrilled with the effort and the though; particularly because he knows I am perhaps the world's worst baker. I can cook just about anything....baking is an ENTIRELY different story. I have been known to darn near poison everyone on a few occasions and have also confused the sugar and salt while making cookies...it's bad, people...bad. Anywho, I'm digressing. He loved the effort and chuckled at my lack of success. The cake didn't refreeze as quickly as I planned, the un-napped child fell asleep around 4PM and NOTHING was done. As a result...I got out of cooking dinner...we decided to have a birthday dinner at Friendly's, ice-cream sundae's and all. My kids were thrilled to bits, my hubby was happy and aside from the over-tired, over-stimulated, near-meltdown kids, it went smashingly well for once!
Now we are on to building my garden and cleaning out the garage, which is proving to be an adventure; one I will absolutely blog more about. OH! and the SUPER exciting news! I'm going to be reviewing a gardening tool that I am SO psyched about! I'm way into organic gardening, despite not being the best at it. This is an online garden planner that I'm really, really hoping will help someone like me (basically a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants novice) have an awesome garden! Stay tuned for the review!!

ahh...long time

So, it's been a loooonnnnggg time since I decided to blog...and even longer since I've actually blogged anything! Life in my house has changed...I officially have two little boys. I live in the land of make-believe monsters, i.e. Darth Booger, and sword fights...and for the most part, I LOVE it. I started working more hours at my part-time job, which has been an experiment, for the most part. My kids miss me and I cut back on my hours again; besides, now with baseball and soccer and activities, it's nearly impossible to maintain any kind of regular schedule. My big boy, who I'm now calling Thing 1, is super active and SUPER excited because today is daddy's birthday. He desperately wants to help me make the birthday cake, which, is also an experiment (most things in my house are). I'm trying to make a mint-chocolate chip ice cream cake...it's not going well. I can cook. Well. I am bad at cakes and stuff. This isn't any better because it includes ice-cream. Currently, I have a cake base with soup-like ice-cream sitting on top of it re-freezing because I didn't let the cake cool enough (apparently) and a very upset kindergartener that wants to help desperately and doesn't get that the ice-cream has to become ICE cream again before we can do anything with it.
My little one is partially at fault for this fiasco. Thing 2 was ABSOLUTELY a force to be reckoned with today! He woke up grumpy, which is unusual for my normally sunshiny, happy, little man. But, nonetheless, he woke up grumpy...pissy even. And it hasn't improved. I thought a change of scenery might help, so we went to the grocery store to buy what I needed for the cake, and pick up some Rx at the pharmacy. It started with him flirting with the girl at the pharmacy like he usually does, which was encouraging...and then it spiraled downhill at a pace that I still can't wrap my head around. I don't know what went wrong or why, but, things were flying out of the cart, Thing 2 was climbing out of the cart, throwing himself around, screaming and whining. Sooo...I paid for the few items I NEEDED, aborted the remainder of my shopping and high-tailed it out of there, only to do what any sensible person would do (please note my sarcasm here!)...I took him out to lunch with some friends. And not, to a fast-food place where they could run amok in a plastic jungle and scream like barbarians...no....I'm not that smart. We went to a decent local pizzeria where local businessfolk like to have normal lunches. My child was the only one that refused to behave. There was no sitting, there was no eating (for either of us), it was pure chaos. This time I took the hint and we came home. I decided to start the cake, and get him down for a nap. In retrospect, I should've tackled one of these at a time and not in tandem. But, I'm a glutton for punishment. Got the chocolate cake mixed and in the oven and then TRIED to get him to nap. There was much crying, drawer emptying, flailing, etc...and alas, no nap. Conceding defeat (and needing to deal with the whole cake thing), he came downstairs and tried to help me, which resulting in a not-so-cool cake being used as a base for ice-cream and has ended with a soupy mess in my freezer. Here's to hoping it turns out okay, or at least tastes okay. I am committing to blogging more...this is my new resolve. I need to do this for my sanity...and I want to start reviewing products, but, in order to do it, I have to blog more.
